Personal trainer in Apollo Beach: what a first session with me looks like

September 7, 2026Coach Mac3 min read

Exactly how a first 1 on 1 session in Apollo Beach runs, from the first five minutes to what you walk out with.

Most people who book a first session with me have already had a bad one somewhere else. They got handed to whoever was free, ran through a workout that had nothing to do with them, and left sore with no idea what happens next. So let me tell you exactly how mine runs, start to finish, before you spend a dollar.

The first ten minutes are talking, not training

I want three things before you touch a weight. What you actually want out of this, in your words, not fitness words. What your week really looks like, including the days that fall apart. And what your body has already been through: old injuries, surgeries, the shoulder that clicks, the back that goes out every spring.

That last one matters more than anything else on the sheet. I train people with bad knees, bad backs, bad shoulders and post baby cores every single week. None of that stops us. It just decides which movements we use and which ones we never touch.

A session that nobody recorded is a workout, not training.

Then I watch you move

A short screen: squat, hinge, push, pull, and how you carry weight while walking. Nothing heavy. I am not testing you, I am reading you. I want to see where the range runs out, which side takes over, and whether your ribs and hips stack when you brace.

You will hear me say what I see out loud. Not to correct everything at once, but so you know I am looking at your body and not a template.

The training part

The first session is real training, not a sales pitch with dumbbells. Usually four to six movements, working weight rather than max weight, full rest between hard sets. I want you to leave feeling like you worked, not like you got run over. Nobody makes better decisions the day after being buried.

I load the bar for you, I count for you, and I tell you the number to beat next time. Every set you do gets written down. That is the whole point. A session that nobody recorded is a workout, not training.

What you leave with

You walk out with the weights you used, the reps you hit, the rule for when to add load, and what we do next time. If you are eating badly and you want it addressed, we address it, in plain numbers, without me handing you a diet you will quit by Thursday.

You also leave knowing whether I am right for you. Some people need somebody standing over them twice a week. Some people just need the plan written properly and a check in. If it is the second one, I will say so and point you at online coaching instead, because selling somebody sessions they do not need is how gyms lose people for good.

Where and when

Sessions run in Apollo Beach. Early mornings and evenings go first because that is when people are free. Bring water, shoes you can lift in, and clothes you can move in. That is the whole list.

If you have been putting this off because you do not want to look like a beginner in front of somebody: everybody in my book started exactly there, including me. The first session is just the day you stop guessing.
