Definition
Muscle protein synthesis is the process by which the body assembles new muscle proteins. It's elevated for 24–48 hours after a hard training session and is triggered each meal by ~2.5–3g of leucine. Net muscle growth occurs when MPS exceeds muscle protein breakdown over time.
Real questions
How many protein feedings per day for MPS?
3–5 meals of 30–50g of complete protein each, spaced 3–5 hours apart, maximize 24-hour MPS.
