Drop Set

Reducing weight mid set to extend the set past initial failure.

Training1 question answered

Definition

A drop set takes the working weight to failure, then immediately reduces the load 20–30% and continues for more reps, often through 2–3 drops. It accumulates volume and metabolic stress in a short time, useful for finishing isolation work — but punishing for compound lifts.

Real questions

Are drop sets good for hypertrophy?

Yes, sparingly. Add one drop set to the last set of an isolation exercise — not to every working set.
