Definition
Powerlifting is a competitive sport where athletes attempt maximal singles in the squat, bench press, and deadlift. Training revolves around low reps (1–5), long rest (3–5 minutes), and technique refinement. It's distinct from Olympic weightlifting (snatch and clean & jerk) and bodybuilding (muscle size and symmetry).
Real questions
Is powerlifting good for physique?
It builds a strong base, but bodybuilding style accessory work is needed for balanced development (side delts, arms, calves, upper chest).
Do I need a belt for powerlifting?
Not as a beginner. Belts add 5–15% to heavy lifts by increasing intra abdominal pressure. Learn to brace without one first.
